Getting Started
What is Easy PD?
Easy PD is a professional development tracking app for teachers that uses AI to transform PD attendance into real classroom action. It helps you log PD hours, generate personalised teaching strategies, build evidence for registration, and track your impact — all in one app.
Who is Easy PD for?
Easy PD is designed for K-12 teachers, pre-service teachers, relief teachers, instructional coaches, and heads of department. It currently supports the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST) and the US Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) standards.
How do I get started?
Download Easy PD from the App Store, complete the onboarding (name, country, year levels, subjects, and current topics), and you're ready to log your first PD session. The more context you provide about your teaching, the more personalised the AI suggestions will be.
Is Easy PD available on Android?
Easy PD is currently available on iPhone and iPad. Android support is on our roadmap.
AI & Privacy
How does the AI work?
When you log a PD session, the AI analyses your notes, the PD content, and your teaching context (year levels, subjects, current topics, school priorities) to generate personalised classroom strategies, reflection prompts, standards alignment, and impact tracking suggestions. It's like having a personal instructional coach who knows your classroom.
Is my data private?
Absolutely. Voice transcription and photo text extraction (OCR) are processed entirely on your device — nothing leaves your phone. When you use AI Action Plans, your PD title, notes, and teaching context are sent to our secure server to generate personalised strategies. We never sell your data or use it for advertising.
What is on-device processing?
Easy PD uses Apple's built-in Speech and Vision frameworks to transcribe your voice recordings and extract text from photos of handouts or notes. This processing happens entirely on your iPhone — your recordings and photos are never uploaded to any server.
Does the AI write my reflections for me?
No. Instead of generating a pre-written reflection, Easy PD's AI creates personalised coaching questions specific to your PD session and teaching context. You write the answers in your own words — which makes them genuine evidence of professional growth, not AI-generated text.
What AI model does Easy PD use?
Easy PD uses Anthropic's Claude for cloud-based AI processing (action plans, standards alignment, reflection prompts). On-device processing uses Apple's native Speech Recognition and Vision frameworks.
Can I use Easy PD without the AI features?
Yes. PD logging, Smart Capture (voice and photo), the standards browser, your dashboard, and basic PDF export all work without AI. The AI Action Plans are an optional upgrade that adds personalised coaching on top of your PD tracking.
Smart Capture
How does voice recording work?
Tap the microphone icon on the Capture step when logging PD. Speak naturally about what you learned — Easy PD transcribes your voice in real time using on-device speech recognition. You can record multiple segments, and the transcribed text becomes your PD notes.
How does photo capture work?
Take a photo of handouts, presentation slides, or your written notes. Easy PD uses on-device OCR (optical character recognition) to extract the text automatically. You can capture multiple photos and the extracted text is combined into your PD notes.
Do I have to use Smart Capture?
No — you can always type your notes manually. Smart Capture (voice and photo) is optional and designed to make it faster and easier to capture your learning, especially right after a PD session.
Professional Standards
Which standards frameworks are supported?
Easy PD currently supports the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST) with all 7 standards and 37 descriptors across 4 career stages, and the US Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) with 10 standards across 4 domains. You can switch frameworks in your Profile.
How does standards alignment work?
When the AI generates your Action Plan, it analyses your PD content and suggests which standards descriptors are most relevant, with confidence scores and reasons. You can accept, reject, or manually add standards — you're always in control of the alignment.
Can I use Easy PD if I'm not in Australia or the US?
Yes. While APST and InTASC are the built-in frameworks, Easy PD's PD logging, Smart Capture, and AI action plans work regardless of your location. Support for additional frameworks is planned.
How many PD hours do I need for registration?
This varies by state and country. In most Australian states, teachers need 20 hours of PD per registration cycle. In some states like NSW, it's 100 hours. Easy PD adjusts the target based on your selected state. Check with your registration authority for specific requirements.
Action Plans & Impact
What is an AI Action Plan?
After you log a PD session, the AI analyses what you learned alongside your teaching context (year levels, subjects, current topics, school priorities) and generates 3 specific classroom strategies you can try. These aren't generic advice — they reference your actual students and curriculum.
Can I edit the AI-suggested actions?
Yes. You can edit any AI-suggested action to better fit your context, delete ones that aren't relevant, and add your own custom actions. The AI gives you a starting point — you make it yours.
What is impact tracking?
Impact tracking closes the loop between PD and practice. After you try a strategy in your classroom, you log what happened — what worked, what didn't, and attach evidence. This builds a genuine record of PD implementation, which is what registration bodies want to see.
What are guided reflection prompts?
Instead of a blank text box, the AI generates 4 coaching-style questions specific to your PD session and teaching context. Questions like 'How might the gamified fitness testing approach change the way your Year 10 students engage with biomechanical analysis?' Your answers become authentic evidence of professional reflection.
Export & Evidence
What can I export?
Easy PD offers four export types: PDF Report (hours summary with standards coverage), Evidence Pack (full portfolio with reflections, actions, and impact), PD Log CSV (spreadsheet of all entries), and Standards Summary CSV (coverage breakdown by standard). Evidence Pack and Standards Summary require Pro.
Is the export suitable for registration renewal?
Yes. The PDF Report is designed for registration compliance — it shows your total hours, date range, and standards coverage. The Evidence Pack goes further with reflections, classroom actions, and impact evidence, which demonstrates not just attendance but professional growth.
Can I filter exports by date range?
Yes. You can export all entries or filter to a specific date range — useful for matching your registration cycle or reporting period.
Subscription & Account
Is Easy PD free?
Easy PD is free to download with full PD logging, Smart Capture (voice and photo), standards browser, dashboard, basic PDF export, and 3 AI credits to experience the AI features. Pro unlocks unlimited AI Action Plans, guided reflections, impact tracking, evidence pack export, and multi-device sync.
How much does Pro cost?
Less than a coffee a month. You can subscribe monthly or annually in the app. See the App Store listing for current pricing.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes, anytime. Go to Settings on your iPhone > tap your name > Subscriptions > Easy PD. Your Pro features remain active until the end of your current billing period.
How do I restore my purchase on a new device?
Open Easy PD, go to Profile > Settings > Your Plan, and tap 'Restore Purchases'. Your subscription is tied to your Apple ID and will restore automatically.
Does my data sync across devices?
Multi-device sync via iCloud is available with Pro. Your PD entries, reflections, and action plans sync across your iPhone and iPad automatically.
Troubleshooting
Voice recording isn't working
Make sure you've granted microphone and speech recognition permissions. Go to your iPhone Settings > Easy PD and check that both Microphone and Speech Recognition are enabled. If the app crashes during recording, try restarting the app.
The AI Action Plan failed to generate
This usually means a network issue. Make sure you have an internet connection and try again. If the problem persists, check that your PD entry has a title and some description or notes — the AI needs content to work with.
My PD hours aren't showing correctly
Check the date range on your dashboard — it shows hours for your current registration cycle. Also verify that each PD entry has the correct hours value. You can edit any entry by tapping on it in the PD Log.
